Working closely with the Superintendent of Information Technology, the Associate CIO supports the administrative and academic needs of the Board by developing and executing the IT Strategic Plan to promote Student Success and Learning. This position supervises and supports four IT managers and provides leadership, oversight and direction of the IT project portfolio. This role is responsible for the vision, budget, security, delivery, and support of all information technology services.Selected accomplishments include: The transformation of the Board's network infrastructure, leadership of the Ministry of Education broadband modernisation project (BMP), and organisational change initiatives in the areas of project management and IT service management. Developed and implemented structured cabling standards; researched, procured, and deployed a Meraki dense wireless access point infrastructure; and implemented the province's first board-wide SD-WAN architecture/infrastructure that ensures students and staff have sufficient and reliable access to Internet based services.

Responsible for the design, implementation and operations of the College’s server infrastructure and related services such as SAN and virtual/physical tape backup systems; its network (wired, wireless, and Internet); its telecommunications (voice, video, and collaboration) systems; and its physical cabling infrastructure. The Director is also responsible for other central ICT services including e-mail, calendaring, directory services, computer account management, software distribution and so on. Most of these services and systems are critical to the on-going operation of the College’s business. Within his or her area of responsibility, the incumbent also manages major projects and is responsible for staffing and budget issues.Selected Achievements:Managed the projects delivering IT infrastructure (wired, wireless, and inter-campus networks; a new data center; server and storage infrastructures; phone and video-conferencing infrastructures) to Sheridan’s new HMC campus in Mississauga which opened in August 2011. Managed all ICT operations during the Ontario Colleges staff strike in September 2011 without suffering a major outage. Led the enterprise email and calendar renewal project moving faculty and staff to an MS Exchange on premise solution and moving students to the cloud-based MS Office 365. Participated in the selection process for the new LMS. Championed the move to a project management culture within Sheridan IT and contributed to the service culture by applying concepts and methodologies from ITIL. Contributed to IT governance discussions. Worked with purchasing to establish processes supporting new guidelines including RFP template development. Negotiated and drafted contracts with major vendors following RFP selection (servers, storage, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) and partnerships (City of Mississauga, Pinewood Studios, Cisco and Partners in Research). Managed security incident involving DDoS attack on Sheridan’s network.

Led the IT operations, software development, and Audio/Visual functions during a period of explosive growth (from 13 people to more than 150 people).Involved with the Q2C Festival (Oct. 2009) project planning and execution. Responsible for successfully capturing the festival lectures in high definition video and streaming the events live on the web. Worked with sponsors (TVO, Digital Rapids, and StreamTheWorld) to achieve desired results. Managed the project to build a 3D theatre within the exhibit tent (involved sponsor interactions, hardware selection, installation, and operations).Involved in the planning, tendering, and project management processes for Perimeter's building expansion (2008–2010). Worked with Perimeter scientists and staff, architects, consultants and vendors to establish requirements, prepare the designs, and work through the tender processes and contract negotiations. Guided the activities and set priorities for the software development group. Created and filled the Application Development Manager role. Centralised and improved lecture capture facilities (2005, 2007, 2009). Provided oversight of the development of the PIRSA (Perimeter Institute Recorded Seminar Archive) website, which provides researchers with a convenient portal to recorded lecture materials.Managed two fibre optic infrastructure projects (2006) connecting Perimeter to its second facility and to the ORION network. Worked with the City, Region, University of Waterloo, and ORANO to achieve approvals, negotiate contracts, and execute the project work. Led the RFQ processes for the supply and installation of underground conduit and fibre optic cabling.Project team member and infrastructure lead for Einsteinfest (fall 2005) which was a public festival celebrating Einstein. The exhibit and lectures drew 28,000 people over a 23 day period.

Responsible for IT infrastructure in an R&D environment. Duties included the setup and configuration of network infrastructures, Unix (SGI) and Linux servers, MS-Windows and Linux based desktops and file storage/backup systems. Implemented Linux firewall and MS proxy servers and a VPN network to support a technology co-development project with a US based business partner .Developed Python code as part of the research efforts (receptor modeling and drug design to fit receptor models).
