Software EngineerMeta May 2021 - PresentMenlo Park, Ca, Us* Tech Lead for a team of engineers who own the Comment Ranking platform -
Staff Software EngineerBungie Jul 2018 - May 2021Bellevue, Wa, Us* Tech Lead and Manager for a team of engineers. I coached each engineer to execute on their projects and gave feedback for growth.* Reduced latency from 8 hours to 10 minutes by architecting our data pipeline on Google Cloud Platform. Also reduced data loss from 1% to 0.01% and reduced maintenance burden by 74%.* Architected and implemented a streaming aggregation service in C# and BigQuery so game designers could create data-driven community events.* Reduced toil for CRM, Marketing, and UA teams by automating third-party API interactions.* Phone-screened engineering candidates applying to Bungie. -
Senior Software EngineerBungie Sep 2015 - Dec 2018Bellevue, Wa, Us* Launched and supported Destiny 2. Investigated and solved performance issues in C# services and SQL database.* Increased query performance 200x by migrating our 10 TB data warehouse to Spark and Parquet.* Performance tested data warehousing solutions, and built our 1.5 PB data lake in Hadoop.* Enabled player-targeted CRM campaigns by implementing detailed logging for all players in C++. * Integrated our Commercialization service with new third-party platforms and optimized performance by caching in Redis. -
Software EngineerBungie Mar 2010 - Sep 2015Bellevue, Wa, Us* Architected and implemented a distributed ETL service in C# which allowed teams to aggregate protobuf and text logs from all services and write to a database.* Designed, performance tested, and implemented our character storage service data layer in C# and SQL.* Launched and supported Destiny 1* Analyzed Halo and Destiny data to find cheaters. Added heuristic detections for known hacks.* Informed the initial economy and gameplay design for Destiny by analyzing Halo data.* Implemented a scheduling tool so designers could plan and automate gameplay events in Halo: Reach. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Washington Jun 2007 - Mar 2010Seattle, Wa, UsI use computational models (Density Functional, Molecular Dynamics and others) to investigate solid structures, e.g. ice, silicon, etc. We use massively parallel methods, GPU's and clusters, to study the band structure, absorption, electronic and other properties of various materials. -
Research Assistant With Institute For Nuclear TheoryUniversity Of Washington May 2009 - Sep 2009Seattle, Wa, UsI ported code to solve the nuclear many-body problem (DFT) on NVIDIA graphics processing units (an NVIDIA Tesla GPU). The original code, written in FORTRAN, was linked with c++ routines written using CUDA, a c++ extension. We investigated various methods of optimizing the routines to run on the massively-parallel GPU architecture. -
Teaching AssistantUniversity Of Washington Aug 2007 - Jun 2008Seattle, Wa, UsInstructed students using the Socratic method, and taught introductory physics labs and tutorials. -
Research Assistant On GlastUniversity Of Washington Jun 2007 - Aug 2007Seattle, Wa, UsGLAST is the the Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope. We designed and analyzed algorithms to detect point sources, pulsars and others, using a maximum likelihood statistical analysis on sample telescope data. We competed with other groups to find the most efficient algorithm to be implemented in the overall scientific analysis. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Washington Jun 2007 - Aug 2007Seattle, Wa, UsDebugged and tested data-analysis code intended for community-wide distribution. To do this we constructed simulated data sets on which to test the analysis package and optimized the algorithms. -
Research Assistant With UwCern Dec 2007 - May 2009Meyrin, Genève, ChI worked on the ATLAS collaboration, one of the massive detectors at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, in Geneva Switzerland. I collaborated with physicists from Genoa, Rome, Tokyo and many other universities in analyzing simulation data, searching for the Higgs boson and testing our detector's abilities. We designed algorithms and statistical techniques (ranging from simple variable cuts neural nets) to pick out the interesting signatures from our massive data sets (~4TB).
