I grew up in LA, selling with a typewriter under my arm, relentless optimism to drive me, and a passion for technology. As a sports guy, I’m competitive, thrill-seeking, and constantly trying to make myself better at everything I do. But, I make it a point to only ever compete against myself. There will always be someone better, faster, stronger than me, but what I can control is how I build the best version of ME. I’ve always gotten bored quickly. That’s why I am drawn to the possibilities that technology creates - and the fact that it is always changing.And so, when my ex IBM boss at the time saw this young and eager kid who is constantly searching for more, he decided to mentor me. I am truly grateful for the success he brought me. I worked hard and was lucky enough to have my first house at 24, and continued to follow the technology journey through computers, cabling, phone systems, web hosting - you name it, I was probably there at some point. My journey brought me to be founding partners for two separate Web 1.0 companies that were precursors to some behemoths we know today, but when the bottom fell out of Web 1.0, I was back to square one. Fast forward to 2004 when one of my best friends ran an executive search practice and asked me to help evaluate executives beyond their resumes. I managed to find a company that could look at the combination of individuals, teams and companies across all types of behaviors, competencies, you name it. I could not help but wish this assessment was around back when I was managing all my teams - I could have used it to understand what people could be good at …or not. It certainly would have saved me from some of the “what took you so long,” or “you’re right, I’m miserable” conversations. Not because I was a bad manager, but they simply felt out of place with the work they were doing. And then a book by Michael Lewis came out - Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game. - and everything changed. My purpose became clear. I made it my goal to put people’s data and their metrics of success together so that I could create a world of relevance in helping people succeed in any job, in any industry. And so, I’ve devoted my life to that ever since by founding PeopleBest. Today, I focus on helping companies hire and retain the right people to create the ultimate A-team for their organizations. We PeopleBest, I focus on fixing the headaches of bad hiring, poor retention, and missed performance metrics.
