Contributed to the “Dronology” project, a Java framework for safely controlling multiple UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) in a shared airspace while monitoring and planning routes for the UAVs (for more information, see https://dronology.info/).Collaborated with other developers, using agile development methods during summers of 2017 and 2018, with frequent planning meetings and fast design iteration.Developed a python-based ground station to handle communication between the Java ground control software and the UAVs, using a custom JSON communication protocol and the specialized MAVLink UAV control protocol.Developed framework for easily switching between simulated UAVs and “physical” UAVs for safely testing flight paths before attempting flight with physical hardware.Designed a pipeline to transfer sensor data from an onboard computer (Raspberry Pi) to the ground station for collision and obstacle avoidance.Facilitated the publishing of an article researching Safety Cases for UAVs in Shared Airspaces (Available at https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/8674543).

Designed and built microcontroller-based (Arduino) control system for dispensing fuel, monitoring fuel usage for farm vehicles (stored in SQL server), and password protection.Researched, selected, and assembled all necessary equipment, including input devices, relays, meters, and pumps.

Assisted Professor Jay Brockman with labs, tutoring students, and grading papers.Advised the design of lab assignments to demonstrate concepts such as Boolean algebra and switching circuits, Karnaugh maps, design of combinational and of sequential logic networks, and sequential machines.

Designed and built handheld Linux-based (Raspberry Pi) system with an integrated RFID reader to read animal ear tags.Modeled and 3D-printed custom plastic case for the device.Programmed the device to incorporate animal tag and touch screen data entry, storing a local dataset during field operations and subsequently storing data to SQL database upon WIFI availability.
