I took a few twists to get here.Before diving in all the data querying and modeling chaos, I used to be a writer on my own channel (WeChat @不正常留学实验室) in China. Initially started as a personal blog in 2017, @不正常留学实验室 grew into an overseas lifestyle channel, with more than 390,000 followers in 2022. Blessed by the expanding team, we successfully collaborated with VISA, MasterCard, Microsoft, ByteDance, Tencent, and many other key clients. After immigrating to the US in 2021, I introduced data-oriented methodology to improve the content performance, such as click-through rates and open rates, and I also analyzed natural language used in headlines and content body (SpaCy and NLTK) to understand reader sentiments to develop new content topics. I applied similar methodology at Yamibuy, an Asian online retailer, and successfully found many hero products and halo products on social media previously not aware of. After the sudden death of the channel due to political reason in 2022, I took another step into data science at a horse racing game development firm, where we were able to similate real-life speed curve (polynomial regression) on the backend to ensure fair gamble for all wagers.In 2024 I joined Chipotle as a senior data scientist, and I never looked back since.Being a storyteller was and still is a huge part of my life. I go to stand-up comedies and the comedians are all both happy and mad at the same time because "you are too good to be an audience". To me, being a content writer, a data scientist or a stand-up comedian are fundamentally the same: they are storytellers, just by different means.I do wish I can explore more ways to share stories and more stories to share, as it's always been a part of the journey.
