Inspur Power Systems was founded in 2018. It is a joint venture between Inspur and IBM. It mainly sells IBM Power servers in China Mainland. As a result, the content of my work is basically the same as that of the IBM era.

My duties include: 1. To articulate features and benefits of latest IBM servers(Power and OpenPower) and related solutions for clients. Related solutions include Cloud , Big Data, Data Analysis, ERP, OLTP/OLAP Database, Middleware Application, High-Performance Computing, Geographic Information System, Core Banking System, etc.2. To define system configurations and specifications by applying benchmark models against various data collected. Benchmark models include SPEC, TPCC, LINPACK, SAP, ORACLE, JAVA, etc. Data collected includes performance data, workload data and workload projection data. Accurate system configurations and specifications are used for the design and development of system software(PowerHA, PowerVM, PowerKVM, PowerVC, etc.) and client’s application software.3. To develop project plans and to regulate projects leveraging IBM methodologies, such as, Unified Method Framework, Architecture Thinking, etc.4. To analyze IT requirements of clients and design IT infrastructure solutions for clients accordingly, for example, Active-Active IT infrastructure solutions, Disaster Recovery solutions, High-Availability Cluster solutions, Distributed Computing solutions, Virtualization Solutions, etc. 5. To coordinate and conduct proof-of-concept and benchmark tests to validate solutions designed for clients.6. To communicate with clients, System Integration Service Providers and Independent Software Vendors during project delivery to ensure successful implementation of solutions designed for clients.7. To work with IBM services team to support client on problem determination and problem solving.8. To analyze status of client’s current IT system and business dynamics, provide advice on tuning and alternations for improved IT system performance and service level. 9. To develop technical training documentation and conduct technical training classes for clients regularly.10. To develop user manuals and guide books tailored for specific client environments.

As System Engineer, I mainly had the below listed duties and responsibilities shouldered at work:1. Collecting client’s request, making suggestion on IT system hardware framework, operation system and database planning. Meanwhile performing functional and performance testing to achieve client satisfaction. 2. Analyzing current IT system status and functionality, making suggestion on system alteration and optimization to achieve functional requirement requested by the client. 3. Regularly provide technical training lecture and demonstration to clients.4. Plan and implement computer system installation, configuration and maintenance including the OS and its supporting hardware (UNIX servers—IBM, HP-UX & Solaris, routers and switches, etc.), software (HACMP clustered software) , middleware (Websphere) and databases (DB2 & DPF);5. Take charge of the reasonable deployment of various hardware and software in a network system to achieve optimal performance of computer system operation and undertake hardware and software upgrade;6. Maintain database integrity through the maintenance of data storage infrastructure and regular data backup and upgrade and lay down data extraction policies to prevent system data from divulgation;7. Pay close attention to system operation condition and take timely and effective actions to fix operational problems, such as error correction, bug tracking and eliminating, abnormalities repair and crash recovery, etc.;8. Prepare and maintain documentation, policies and instructions detailing system operational procedures and system logs; etc.In a word, I was a real master of system engineer of mainstream operating system such as AIX, UNIX, etc. Furthermore, he was in good command of Shell Script, which enabled him to write various scripts to supervise the performance of systems and databases.
