I don't claim that I know AI/ML, but I do what AI/ML is claimed for and get it done, partly because （1） I am a computer architect for hardware-software co-optimization by my Ph.D. (poor hungry determined) training and （2）I know the importance of data from prior life that yielded an acquired company. LOLI (used to, lol) lead the North America research and technology planning team for Futurewei Technologies, covering all its ICT business in device, network and cloud as well as new opportunities and disruptive uncertainties. Among others cities, our team members are distributed in Bay Area, Boston, Toronto, Waterloo and Austin. In a nut shell, our job is to plan the next (N+2 and beyond) steps into the future for the $100B company, execute as a fusion of incubator and VC with a pool of startup-like collaborative projects, and strive to deliver unicorn ($B+) business impact. My technical team participated and won 5 out of total 7 prizes of the 1st Low Power ImageNet Recognition Challenge in 2015. Lead architect for some client engagements.2008 - 2010: Collaboration with Power7 and Power8 nest architecture team on cache hierarchy innovations.2007 - 2009: Collaboration with PERCS Torrent hub chip development team on design and evaluation of Power 775 (IH) interconnection networks. Executive Architect, IBM Growth Markets Unit Big Data Centre of Competency (on Assignment, 2012.09 - present)P.S.: My 2c on Big Data -The core definition of Big Data should be more about what it means or does than the characteristics (e.g. those popular Vs) of it. IMHO the core of Big Data is Analytics. Indeed, Big Data is not a brand new concept, which is similar to many other "new" terms in computing. However, characteristics (e.g. those Vs) of Big Data do introduce new challenges to the IT landscape.On the other hand, what also make Big Data appealing are the non-technical aspects. "Big" can mean "massive" when data analytics is available to the mass, e.g. over the Internet, via mobile devices, through sensors, etc. That said, Big Data is not only a technical issue but also business, societal and political issues.Big Data may appear small right now in some cases, but let's think BIG and get prepared for the future.
