    Designed and applied Carbon Molecular Sieve Membrane (CMSM) reactor to produce H2 from coal and biomass derived syngas and is the first to test with various hazard impurities. This procedure could obtain over 95% conversion and over 95% H2 recovery. Comparing to traditional packed bed reactor, this CMSM reactor has higher conversion, does not require sulfur-removing process and combines the production and separation of H2 in one step. Designed and applied Palladium (Pd) Membrane reactor to produce H2 from reformate mixture and is the first to test a 30-inch Pd Membrane. This procedure could obtain over 99% conversion, over 99% H2 recovery and over 99% product H2 purity. While combined with a packed bed methanation reactor, the product H2 could have less than 3ppm CO, which could be a promising H2 source for fuel cells. Developed Matlab program to simulate the behavior of CMSM and Pd Membrane reactor and study the design aspects of the reactor for further scale-up. Developed Fortran program to carry out pore-network simulation to study the transport phenomenon of CMSM.
