Researcher Ph.D CandidateQut (Queensland University Of Technology) Nov 2020 - PresentAustraliaUnderstanding the Impact of Built Environment in Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORCs) on Ageing in Place of Australian Baby Boomerso This was the first research into NORCs in Australia. Emphasizing the optimization of the well-being of older people and responding to their preference for ageing-in-place, the NORC model challenges the stereotypical concept of retirement communities, enabling older citizens to be more physically and socially active, and foster a greater sense of community and well-being.o This research used both qualitative and quantitative methodology including projecting geographic data, developing the interview and questionnaire strategy, analyzing the result by Bayesian Network simulation and theorize a standard NORC model. o This study highlighted the crucial role of NORCs in supporting the ageing population's desire to live independently and comfortably within familiar settings. The findings emphasized how built environment factors interact with each other and how their interaction significantly influences the ageing process, promoting a higher quality of life. Ultimately, creating supportive NORCs requires a concerted effort across various sectors and stakeholders to develop age-friendly environments that respect and enrich the lives of older adults, allowing them to age with dignity and contentment in their chosen settings. -
