About James Daly
Editor, writer, and media entrepreneur with a proven record of launching, developing, expanding, and managing media properties. My work spans all aspects of strategy and growth, including print, online video, social media, mobile, audience engagement, and content partnerships. Extensive experience writing for and working directly with CEOs, SVPs, and other senior executives to create compelling tech and innovation stories as the content lead.I have a deep knowledge of creating brand voice identity, including understanding various audiences and targeting messaging accordingly. I enjoy commissioning, editing, writing, and business development, particularly in launching new ventures and building passionate audiences. I've led teams large and small to multiple awards and quantifiable success through a strategy built on teamwork, passion, fact-checking, intelligence, analytics, and audience growth while meeting budget goals and production deadlines in fast-paced environments. Ideas come from everywhere: scribbled on the back a napkin, brainstorming with others, SEO research, a suggestion from a social follower. I can pursue them all. An effective team player who can meet project deadlines with attention to detail in a matrix environment. Ability to plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously in an organized fashion, with geographically dispersed teams. Demonstrated creative thinker, willing to take risks and try new things, and use compelling visual materials to tell stories. Journalism is the art of great story-telling. As a writer and editor, I have always sought to capture the drama, friction, joy, and pathos of a subject. The best mind is an open mind, so I specialize in asking questions and approaching a story without preconceptions. For relaxing, I enjoy long-distance biking and playing guitar.

Founder / Editor In Chief, Ted Books
TED Books are short original electronic books produced every two weeks. Like the best TED Talks, they're personal and provocative, and designed to spread great ideas. TED Books are typically under 20,000 words — long enough to unleash a powerful narrative, but short enough to be read in a single sitting. They are available for Kindle, Nook and on the iBookstore, but are best represented through the TED Books App, which allows us to embed audio, video and social features into every book, broadening the depth and detail of each work. These additional multimedia features suit the wide-ranging creative palette of our authors to fully express their ideas. My role:Launched and supervised new ebooks platform extending the aims, objectives, and inspirations of the TED conference. Assigned and edited stories, developed new TED Books iOS app, integrated multimedia and art into books, hired and managed a geographically dispersed creative team that produced a new 15,000-word ebook every two weeks. Also created social media strategy and worked on business development to put TED Books on Kindle, iBookstore and Nook platforms. Produced more than 30 ebooks — including the current Top Rated Kindle Single — and created a subscription-based distribution platform. Now serve as Contributing Editor to TED Books. ted.com/tedbooksSome of my TED posts:http://blog.ted.com/author/jdaly817/
