• The project on Numerical Simulation of dry abrasion tester was completed in John F. Welch Technology Center (Sciences CoE, GE Power, Bangalore).• The project proposed a numerical simulation technique to quantify abrasive wear in dry abrasion tester (ASTM G65) using ANSYS Mechanical APDL.• The results from the numerical simulation was compared with experimental data from dry abrasion tester for EN31 steel material of three different harnesses (20HRC, 40HRC and 60HRC).• The main objective was to develop an abrasive wear simulation script for ANSYS APDL which can be used for different combination of loads and materials to quantify the wear rate.
