With his Politically Correct: The Executive Decision debut nearly ready for release, Boston-based Hip Hop artist Jihad Scudder firmly believes that his music will help facilitate what he calls "a permanent solution to a temporary problem."Jihad is referring to the state of emergency he sees in existence in popular culture as a majority of Hip Hop artists give the impression that there are "more drug dealers in the world than there are honest, hard working men.""The music right now doesn't represent reality," he says. "Instead, it represents all the money and possessions they can get by any means, and by how badly they can treat women."Jihad's outlook reflects a movement within Hip Hop; one that values hard work and education, family strength and personal responsibility, with artists like Common, Talib Kweli, Rakim, and The Roots at the forefront. Long before he was a professional Hip Hop artist, Jihad Scudder grew up in the projects on the rough-and-tumble streets of Boston. With his mother's encouragement, Jihad academics helped him reach his music dreams. Politically Correct: The Executive Decision, includes "Matriarch," a moving tribute to his mother, and "So Committed," another tribute track of sorts that deals with Jihad's plans to marry in the future and to start a family of his own. Jihad says fans and fellow artists have dubbed his hardcore music with its positive lyrical leaning, "Jihad-core," a badge he wears proudly. "I grew up around all the negative stuff, but I worked and went to school and worked on my music.
