With a decade of experience working with the United Nations, Jihan Salad is a public speaker and current member of the AlignMNH Steering Committee, known for her impactful roles as a UN technical health expert. With over 14 years of experience in SRHR, Maternal and Newborn Health, and Humanitarian Response, Jihan has demonstrated strong program coordination skills, extensive field experience, and in-depth knowledge of MNH, particularly in humanitarian preparedness and response.In 2024, Jihan completed a detailed assignment in Malawi, serving as a Health Systems/SRHR Specialist. During this period, she led SRHR policy and advocacy plans, actively participated in the Emergency Preparedness Team, and enhanced UNFPA's visibility in strategic forums. She co-designed the second phase of the UN Joint Programme on Health Systems Strengthening and participated in the rapid response and technical support mission for the floods.In Jordan, Jihan led SRH services at 11 primary healthcare facilities in host communities and refugee camps. She chaired the national SRH Working Group and is a member of the IAWG Maternal and Newborn Health Sub-Working Group. She oversaw the first nationwide Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care needs assessment in 2022 and led the pilot implementation of the 'Women’s Friendly Health Care Services Model'. She also advocated for the ten-year national SRH strategy and coordinated the UN's contribution to the 2022 Jordan Voluntary National Review chapter on SDG 3.Her experience includes working at the UNFPA Somalia Office as a Reproductive and Maternal Health Programme Specialist, where she served as the acting Head of the Puntland Sub-Office. In Somalia, she organized the Campaign on the Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa (CARMMA) and established the first Forensic Centre to improve the response to gender-based violence. She also coordinated the Women in Global Health Somalia conference and managed humanitarian emergency responses.Prior to UNFPA, Jihan was a Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Specialist with IOM and the Ministry of Health in Somalia (Puntland Regional Government). She worked with Dutch NGOs on SRHR issues, lobbying for youth SRHR at international UN meetings and educating about FGM among asylum seekers and refugees in the Netherlands.Jihan holds a Master's degree in Prevention and Public Health and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from VU University in Amsterdam. She is a passionate advocate for the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development and the ICPD Programme of Action.
