In my 17 years of living, I have never met someone that was unimportant. From the countless people I have met growing up in Shanghai, China, to the people I was able to work with from Japan in my church community outreach, I have spent my entire life meeting and communicating with teachers, friends, and people from all around the world. As such, I have always felt that my life has necessitated the need for me to cultivate an open mind, one of understanding, authenticity, and a shared belief in the common good—the same good that has helped me value diversity and individuality, and abhor conformity. I aspire to utilize those values of myself to build a career in law, serving the common good and representing those that might not have had many opportunities.I believe that I have built my life on the exact principle of being myself. Being a humanities-based student, I have spent the bulk of my high school career focusing on activities that foster communication in both speaking and writing, in manners both creative and academic. In my years at Seoul International School, I have had the opportunity to co-found and become the president of the Speakers of SIS Club, and have won finalist awards for Asian and British Parliamentary debate and first place in Forensics Public Forum. Simultaneously, I have also focused greatly on building a successful drama career, being a captain and winner for Forensics Duo Acting, and a familiar face in multiple high school drama productions. In writing, I have had the opportunity to write for and become a photo manager for the school newspaper, and a Co-Head Managing Editor for the literary magazine Kaleidoscope Club. Furthermore, I have also made sure to cultivate my creative writing skills, being published for magazines, and accepted into the Kenyon Young Writers Program, and Iowa Young Writers Studio camp for two years in a row. I have also been an amateur fencing athlete since I was in third grade. From having fenced all three fencing categories, and team rounds and individual competitions, I have won the most number of first place awards or any awards, than anybody in my category, at the amateur national level. I strive to build a well-rounded life, so that I can be completely ready and open to serve the common good to the best of my ability, wherever I go. Following the supreme example of Doctor Who, the show that has guided my identity for the latter half of my life, I want to help people all around the world—to be at home in all lands and ages, is the ultimate goal after all.
