Teaching literacy, maths and all the sciences to students from age 5 to 18 (and adults) keeps my brain active as well as theirs. Many students return to me at each stage of their education.Learning to learn is vital to us all, learning that mistakes are an opportunity to learn more is a lesson many of us need to remember throughout life.Students who come to me enjoy an opportunity to excel, achieving their potential as a result of one-to-one time directed at their own needs. Stretching students to the highest level they can achieve. Encouraging a pride in their improvements. At primary level students are taught according to the stage they are at not the age they are; completing any gaps in their learning, and building on their understanding. The 11 plus in Buckinghamshire offers a fantastic opportunity to help students build on literacy and numeracy skills that will benefit them throughout their education, and tutoring in these skills will maximise their potential to feel comfortable taking the exam and attaining the marks they are truly capable of. Tutoring in physics, chemistry, biology and maths up to GCSE will help a student's understanding, ensuring that basic principles have been understood, and building on these. Practice in answering exam questions, with guidance on how to improve marks achieved, will help increase grades achieved by students. In A'level biology and chemistry a high level of understanding of concepts and their consequences and application is required, together with high level thinking skills and some maths skills; often development of literacy levels will aid this science, helping with key words and with response to extended questions. Learning to learn remains a vital skill to master and practise at all ages and levels.
