I have spent many years trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Finally, after the age of 50, I realised I wanted to give something back. Being not quite adventurous enough to run off to some Third World trouble spot with the UN, I thought of what I could do closer to home. I applied for all sorts of jobs and eventually fell into aged care. Whilst working in aged care, I was able to complete a Certificate IV in Dementia Services (it had MUCH longer title than that, but that sums it up). I became a Dementia Change Champion. Unfortunately (ummm... not quite the right word), I wasn't able to put my learning to as much use as I wanted to so changed over to the disability sector.This offered the opportunity to not only use my skills but pass them on to my colleagues. It also increased my interest in the Positive Behaviour side of care for not only those with dementia but people with acquired brain injuries and various intellectual disabilities. I would love to explore the Positive Behaviour side of care while working in my next role. Please contact me if you think I'd be a good fit for your organisation.
