I've been a nurse since 1988. I started working on a Medical Surgery unit at Allegan General Hospital as a LPN. After obtaining a RN ADN in 1992, I was offered a job at Borgess Medical Center. I worked on the Renal/Gyn unit. I also started working at Pullman migrant Clinic as a Camp Health Aide coordinator. I supervised and taught Camp Health aides, first aid and medical classes. I also gave children their immunizations. I worked in a variety of different positions for this migrant camp. Including running a medical office. 1995 I put all my efforts into working on the oncology unit at Borgess Medical Center. I worked as many hours as I could as I was PRN when needed. In 1997 I signed a posting for pediatrics and was hired to work on the pediatric unit at Borgess Medical Center. The pediatric unit was staffed with two RNs for eleven beds. With two RNs to give total care. I was also crossed trained for postpartum care on their obstetrical unit. I was sadly told that they were going to close the pediatric unit in 2008. They only had two positions on OB, so the highest seniority were given those positions. I left Borgess in 2009 after working on 4 North Specialties. I wanted to work with children again. I started working a Advance Professionals Home Care. I taught and took care of a wide variety of diagnosis, pediatrics and adults. Pre and post op open heart, gastrointestinal diagnosis, failure to thrive, neurological birth defects. Infections needing in home antibiotics, MS patients needing IV solumedrol, wound care with specific orders from wound care nurses and physicians.
