In late 2011, Jillaine joined Marilyn Darling and Heidi Sparkes Guber in launching Fourth Quadrant Partners, LLC (4QP), to bring Emergent Learning to the social sector. Ten years later, the current partners closed 4QP and launched the Emergent Learning Community Project to support and grow the field of EL practitioners working for social change.She was introduced to emergent learning while manager of programs at Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, where she worked extensively with Marilyn Darling to help grantmakers use this tool for evaluation and learning. She has facilitated or co-facilitated reflection sessions on such topics as grantmaking “failures,” general operating support, and nonprofit capacity building.Previously, Jillaine served as manager of programs and action learning at Grantmakers for Effective Organizations; director of programs and communications capacity building at the Benton Foundation; and associate director of the Institute for Global Communications. She studied organizational development at Georgetown University, and leadership coaching with the Coaches Training Institute.Jillaine is a published author and has written and spoken extensively about emergent learning, and grantmaking practices that support nonprofit effectiveness.In addition to a BA in Communication from UC San Diego, Jillaine holds a certificate from Georgetown University in Organization Development and she completed the Coaches Training Institute and coursework at the Institute for Action Learning and International Institute for Social Change. She has served on several boards, including Bannockburn Civic Association, Green Media Toolshed, the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network, and Institute for Global Communications and iEARN-US: the International Education and Resource Network.
