Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate, an Educational Non-profit, headquartered at the University of Pittsburgh, sponsored by the Carnegie Foundation As the Executive Director, I direct efforts to support over 100 US & international institutions in redesigning the education doctorate; marketing, grant applications, website management. Present to and recruit members; Research and contribute to publications.In 2007, recruited 25 universities with a $150,000 grant to rethink the design and purpose (and reputation) of the education doctorate; incorporated in 2014 and filed for 501c3 nonprofit status in 2014. Created bylaws, supported board selection, created website and designed bi-annual meetings. Promoted organization at national conferences and international events growing organization three-fold. Continue to design biannual convening agendas and activities, oversee daily operations with four staff members and publish learning and support materials in academic and non-academic journals.Successes: Since 2007, built CPED into a thriving non-profit with a $300,000 annual budget, grew from 25 to 110 universities. Received three grants (US Dept of Ed- $700,000, WT Grant Foundation- $500,000, Spencer Foundation $75,000), reframed perception of the degree to be a strong professional doctorate.

In this position, I support the redesign of and teach foundations and Inquiry courses in the Pitt Education Doctorate (EdD) Program. I advise 15-20 doctoral students on their development of inquiry projects based on improvement science and designed to impact practice. Additionally, my research focus aims to understand the impact of EdD redesigns on students, faculty and schools of education in the US and abroad. Currently, I have a $500,000 WT Grant funded project that is investigating the research evidence use of EdD graduates at four CPED member institutions. I publish in peer review and practitioner journals as a means to reshape the vision and understanding of the Education Doctorate as the strongest professional preparation for all levels of educational leaders.

In this role, I have supported educational program development at universities, ministries of education and other organizations. I work with faculty and administrators using human-centered design tools and improvement science methods to create collaborative processes to design, develop and implement educational programming.

The HETL Research and Innovation Advisory Board (RIAB) consists of high level academic research leaders who provide advice and insight to the Office of Executive Director on emerging and cutting-edge research and innovation relative to advancing the scholarship and practice of teaching and learning in higher education, including the advancement of education research capacity building and education research theory, practice, and policy around the world. The chief aim of HETL’s research efforts is to create new knowledge related to transforming teaching and learning and improving educational outcomes.

In this postiion, I was part of the faculty team that developed and implemented the Professional Doctorate in Educational Leadership EdD program. I supported doctoral students by chairing dissertations and serving on committees, taught courses in policy, educational history both face to face and online. My research focused on understaning how schools of education changed as a result of being a member of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). To that end, I received a $700,000 US Dept of Education Fund for the Improvement of Secondary Education (FIPSE) grant to upscale my dissertation work. With this grant, I managed a 38 person research team in gathering and analyzing data from 21 original members of CPED.

Learn-Serve International is an educational initiative to assist public and non-public schools to bring a greater international focus to their programs, resulting in more globally aware and responsive students.I was part of a three person started up team. I designed and managed programs for high school students of varying socio-economic and racial backgrounds to collaborate as social entrepreneurs. Supported student recruitment and fund raising / grant writing efforts. In three years, I helped grow the organization from 10 schools to over 50 schools. I co-authored two grants totaling $150,000 and garnered $1000 contributions from outside organizations for each student’s social entrepreneurship project. I led three student/teacher group trips to Paraguay. I designed and implemented three Call to Action Symposiums.

The OAS Office of Education & Culture supports the efforts of Member States to improve the quality and equity of education and enhance and highlight the contribution of their diverse cultures to economic, social, and human development.• Consulted on InterAmerican Teacher Educator Network (ITEN) for Latin America & Caribbean• Designed and implemented survey of educators, administrators, ministry members and union leaders • Analyzed data and reported on findings at international meeting • Facilitated meeting of 100 OAS members in Trinidad & Tobago • Published interim & final reports

The Peace Corps is an agency of the U.S. federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. U.S. citizens volunteer two years to working in developing nations in the areas of health, education, sanitation and emerging and essential areas such as municipal development, information technology and business development. During the Peace Corps I was an Educational & Municipal Development Volunteer serving in a community of 15,000 Paraguayans through youth leadership development, teachers/administrator training and community program development.Briefly in this role, I collaborated with Mayor and Secretary of Youth Development to design and deliver programming in civic & community development for youth in this new democracy. I designed and conducted leadership skills seminars for K-16 leaders and educators and conducted workshops on information technology use. I supported the World Bank initiative in micro-lending by interviewing families and gathering data for applications for small business development.Successes: Raised $25,000 to build a 2- story library, raised donations for 100 computers; developed civic education training program for youth; trained over 100 educators in leadership skills.

In this role, I created a short-term study abroad program embedded into courses; developed university partnership agreements around the globe; reshaped policy around study abroad safety and evacuation planning; developed marketing and on-campus recruitment & promotion strategies; developed a mandatory intercultural communications course for all study abroad participants.Successes: Increased student participation 300% and eliminated $20K marketing expense by creating a website; reorganized the $3 million budget to increase staff. Increased minority student participation by 20%; established first international alumni chapters in India, Turkey and Greece.
