Playing with Light!Glass is a truly extraordinary material. Just look around you at the functions it performs. Its’ history is fascinating from its discovery over 5 thousand years ago, the evolution of blowing in ancient Egypt, it's awe inspiring use, when stained, in religious architecture, through to the development of decorative crystal glass and, relatively recently, the huge advancement of ‘float’ glass processes ; ultra-clear for windows and capable of being strengthened and toughened.It transmits, refracts, and reflects light like few other materials, and it can be coloured to the point of being almost opaque; the transparent colours have a gem like quality. I am completely besotted with both the media and the processes:A lifelong 'crafter', I only discovered kiln-formed glass about 16 years ago and was quickly seduced by the nature of glass and the versatility of the process. In 2012, I launched Fusing Ideas Glass, selling individual art glass home accessories, as a side-hustle to my successful garden design business.In 2015, I made the decision to focus on the glass, broaden my knowledge skillset and develop my creative narrative. Combining ancient methods with modern techniques - in my own way – I am developing an individual style, typified by bold colours and complex patterns. I love the challenges the glass keeps offering me.I exhibit and sell online, at select Arts & Craft Fairs in the UK and with both the Shropshire & Worcestershire Guilds of Contemporary Craft.In 2016, I ventured into running glass fusing workshops for small groups at my home-based studio near the Welsh border. Proud to say I have taught hundreds of people the basics & beyond of glass fusing. And have welcomed students from as far afield as Israel. And many of my students come back repeatedly to enjoy the immersive creative experience and learn more; they are an inspiration to me.In 2022 I opened my studio in Bishop's Castle, just off the main street. I am exploring a new technique which I intend to overlay on my current style. And more space has enabled me to aquire more of everything for a better experience for students.
