Currently Associate Vice President for Research Computing & Data at Clemson University. Jill Gemmill is a creative innovator who leads university IT solutions supporting research. She has bootstrapped multiple programs to address those gaps. Dr. Gemmill has over 40 years of experience in university information technology with an unusual breadth as well as depth of experience that includes scientific and high performance computing; campus and regional network infrastructure and services; federated authentication/authorization technology and infrastructure; regulated data security, collaboration technology standards, and scientific visualization.Her collaborative and effective leadership has been recognized by awards including Data Center Executive of the year (DACEY) Award 2008 for Campus IT Infrastructure Re-Engineering; ESRI Special Achievement in GIS Award, June 2003 for the Woodlawn Housing Initiative Web Site, a proving ground for new concepts in community development; and E-Gov “Best of the Best” Pioneer Award 2002 for the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Interoperability Project. Dr. Gemmill is also Research Professor in Clemson's College of Engineering.Jill Gemmill has been a principal on 30 funded awards totaling more than $30 Million dollars from funding agencies including the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Energy, Institute for Museum and Library Sciences, National Parks Service, and UAB Health Services Foundation.
