Jill DeGroot is a flute performance major currently studying at DePaul School of Music in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to coming to DePaul, she studied at the Merit School of Music's Tuition-Free Conservatory for four years, where she performed in the Merit Wind Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. Jill also has an extensive chamber music background at the Merit School, and has participated in competitions such as the A.N. and Pearl G. Barnett, Rembrandt, and Midwest Young Artist Chamber Competitions.Jill has had the privilege to perform in many musical organizations including the Northwest Indiana Youth Symphony Orchestra, the University of Michigan's MPulse Summer Flute Academy under Professor Amy Porter, and the University of Illinois' Summer Youth Program under Dr. Jonathan Keeble.Jill performed in a master class for Emmanuel Pahud, an audition workshop with Dr. Cliff Colnot, and won Third Prize at the Eastern Illinois Flute Soloist Competition. She has had private lessons with the following teachers: Alyce Johnson, Amy Porter, Alexa Still, Jonathan Keeble, John Wachala, and Rebecca Johnson.
