I began writing children's books after the birth of my son in 2015 and was able to publish my first book "Blow It All Out", an easy reader about deep breathing, in November 2019. The second book in the series “Stand Up Strong”, a rhyming book about the connection between good posture and well being was released in November 2020. In 2021, "Farmer Dale on Top" was published, a narrative book about Farmer Dale's climbing adventure with the encouragement of his mom and the support of his dogs. "A Walk in the Woods" was published in 2022 as the third installment of the wellness series. This book about hiking is full of beautiful scenery inspired by the hollers and hills of East Tennessee, especially her home in Chestnut Hill. On the horizon for 2023 is a full collection of all the over 30 poems that were written in the last 7 years.In 2022, I worked with a post-secondary education team to create a free plant science textbook. A surprise work published in 2023 is a novelette inspired by my graduate school journey and the wonderful relationship I share with my husband.I am currently booking speaking engagements for elementary schools, libraries, and more. My job was to develop statistical analyses using R to predict better short- and long-range drought vulnerability and resilience of trees in Chicago using satellite remote sensing data and other available meteorological information, create a predictive model, act as a facilitator at a Chicago Region Trees Initiative workshop, and write a summary report for NOAA funded NIDIS/CWD Ecological Drought grant “Building a More Drought-Resilient Urban Forest Ecosystem”.

I lectured as a graduate student under Dr. Sharon Jean-Philippe in Urbanization and Urban Soils, Trees and the Law and Principles of Arboriculture. Summer 2022, I worked on the Exploring Sustainable Urban to Rural Practices SURGE team as a research coach. Our team of 3 faculty, 2 graduate coaches and 8 undergraduate students completed a soil research project and socioeconomic project that both aimed to improve safe and sufficient food access in urban areas.

I collaborated on a three person team to create an open education resource textbook for the Statewide Dual Credit Introduction to Plant Science course. My job was to find credible resources that are within the public domain, available for use through creative commons licenses or permissible to use via request. I then adapted and remixed these resources based on the course objectives, final examination questions, and overall course map to ensure students have an adequate, concise, and free educational resource.

As secretary, I coordinated meetings and maintained records such as minutes and agendas. Since beginning my role, the board successfully built a new office at the landfill. My term was complete just before closing the previous landfill and opening the new landfill. I created a master plan with 17 objectives for improving operations. County solid waste management is a multimillion dollar operation.

I provided quotations for metal finishing requests received from customers. I gathered, analyzed and processed data from samples and quotation requests. When first order parts or samples are received, I was responsible for ensuring parts were processed through the plant. I worked cooperatively with the management team to grow existing customers and identify new customers. I designed and wrote content for the website. I managed the print, social media, and web media marketing.

This involved data sheet recordkeeping, computer data input, balance and electrode calibration, weighing samples, heating multiple samples on hot plates, distilling and titrating samples, loading glassware into washing unit, ordering and maintaining supplies. I am signed off on regulated gravimetric and kjeldahl nitrogen testing.
