Eighteen years ago, I began my career as an elementary school teacher on Colorado’s Western Slope, where I discovered my passion for empowering students and educators alike. In 2017, I stepped into school leadership as the principal of Moffat PK-12 School in Colorado’s San Luis Valley. During my tenure, I spearheaded the implementation of a new student information system. After carefully evaluating all available options, we selected Alma, a system that revolutionized communication, personalized learning, and standards-based grading. Alma provided our teachers with seamless integration to our LMS, significantly streamlining their workflows and saving valuable time.Inspired by Alma’s transformative impact, I transitioned from school administration to educational technology in 2019, aiming to help school leaders nationwide enhance operations and drive student success. Over the 2019-2020 school year, I supported eight Colorado districts in upgrading their systems, and since then, I’ve guided 49 districts through the process of evaluating and adopting a student information system that meets their unique needs.Throughout my career, I’ve been dedicated to mentoring colleagues and educating learners of all ages—from preschoolers to graduate students. Between 2009 and 2017, I taught online courses for the University of Phoenix’s College of Education and College of Humanities and Sciences. My exceptional course reviews, ability to help at-risk students thrive, and high-quality instruction earned me a position as a full-time faculty member in a pilot program designed to support at-risk students. During this time, I also served as a faculty mentor and contributed to curriculum development, providing feedback to enhance course quality and create engaging learning experiences. In 2017, I was awarded a $7,000 grant to research the benefits of formative assessments in online classrooms. This work culminated in a presentation at the Online Learning Consortium in New Orleans, showcasing my commitment to improving educational outcomes through research-driven practices.Today, as Senior Director of PK-12 Solutions at Alma, I continue to champion innovation in education, working closely with schools and districts to create systems that save time, improve operations, and ultimately support student success.
