Completed a chart review gathering low birth weight (LBW) data and compared LBW and pre-term birth percentages to women receiving care at community hospital involved in the IMPLICIT program (Interventions to Minimize Preterm and Low birth weight Infants through Continuous Improvement Techniques) compared to women receiving general care in the community. Compared low birth weight and pre-term birth percentages for women in Lancaster City not in the IMPLICIT program as well as LBW and preterm birth percentages in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and United States using CDC data.

Investigated the genetic basis of Fragile X syndrome in a large Old Order Mennonite pedigree by creating a multi-marker haplotype using three flanking short tandem repeat markers and three single nucleotide polymorphisms which surrounded the Fragile X gene location. I was responsible for selecting markers, amplifying and sequencing using PCR, and interpreting if X chromosome haplotypes were identical for the Mennonites involved in the study Primary investigator: Dr Eric Puffenberg
