About Jill Slater

Over 20 years of positive social impact designing and launching innovative and sustainable plans, policies and projects for cities, people and food. Lead complex strategic planning initiatives; oversee impact analysis, advocacy, marketing. Build consensus and engage stakeholders to create more inclusive communities. I have dedicated over a decade to the public and private sector as a policy planner and civic advocate, and as much time to the non-profit world, improving regional food systems in the Northeast, including co-founding New Amsterdam Market, and consulting for the USDA Farmers Market Priority Program, NOFA and the Resource Conservation and Development Council.I build trust amongst and within communities on topics ranging from the re-zoning of contested neighborhoods, to running a sustainable food business, to transporting upstate agricultural products to NYC via the Hudson River. My tools are data, clear and informed writing, design thinking, holistic approach to strategy, and listening. My experience includes drafting progressive and innovative legislation, urban design, land use policy and analysis. I make regional and local food systems more robust, food hubs feasible, and mid-sized producers and growers more sustainable. Passionate about effecting equitable change, I am a well-honed researcher (qualitative and quantitative), policy and data analyst, strategic planner, writer, manager, event-organizer, project-evaluator, and facilitator. My time as a radio show host and producer at the turn of the 21st Century for KALW—a Bay Area NPR affiliate—cemented my interview and public speaking skills. I am an ardent composter.
