Kansas City, Missouri Area

Physicians in collaboration with AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, the Kansas City Metropolitan Physician Association, North Kansas City Hospital, and the University of Kansas Health System, developed Centrus Health to improve quality and efficiency of care and succeed in a value-based reimbursement system. Centrus Health of Kansas City includes providers from health systems and independent practices working collaboratively, sharing data, and holding each other accountable for performance against physician-developed and approved clinical quality and efficiency standards. Centrus Health is a strategy for alignment and success in today environment and the ideal platform for value-based payment methodologies.

Kansas City, Missouri Area

Guided implementation of Kansas City's first Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization which included 12 independent practices with nearly 85 primary care physicians and mid- level providers and nearly 12,000 Medicare patients toward the triple goal of more informed medical care, better health outcomes, and lower total cost. KCMPA-ACO consistently achieved quality scores in the mid-90 percent rage. Until the fourth performance year, financial savings were elusive. KCMPA-ACO achieved significant savings in 2016, beating projected spending by $8.4 million. After repaying the $2.4 million advance payment which the government fronted in 2013 to get KCMPA-ACO operational, KCMPA-ACO made sizable distributions to participating practices. These distributions validated the work practices had put in for years to provide better care and lower the total cost of care. KCMPA-ACO ended its Medicare ACO at the end of 2017. The decision to end the MSSP was a choice made once most practices were selected for the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus program. The practices that aren't in CPC+ joined a new Medicare ACO I developed for Centrus Health Kansas City which started in January 2018. KCMPA continues to be a strong independent practice association with a fantastic menu of services for independent practices and considerable influence in Centrus Health Kansas City.

Previously known as the Metropolitan Medical Society of Greater Kansas City. Strategic vision and leadership for century-old professional association for physicians in the Kansas City region and its subsidiaries. Deployed best practices in association management to manage a team of eight employees and budgets totaling $1.5 million. Used data to anticipate and drive development of programming to help physicians thrive in Kansas City. HighlightsEconomic Impact and Physician Attrition Study which received national media coverage, quantified the economic importance of the physician workforce to the local economy, and rocketed physician issues to the agenda of our region's civic communityMetroCARE for low-income, uninsured patients with 850 physician volunteersKCMedNet which recruits physicians to Kansas City and promotes the clinical research underway in our region.

Became the face of Kansas City physicians to the business and civic community. Led internal and external communications, media and government relations. Coordinated Kansas City efforts in 2004 and 2005 to unite physicians during medical liability insurance crisis that eventually ended with election of a new Governor and passage of legislation to stabilize the liability insurance market.

Monitored women's health issues in all 50 state legislatures and DC. Assisted volunteer state chapter presidents in their advocacy efforts to support or defeat bills in their states. Coordinated annual Legislative Conference for ob-gyns from around the country.

Previously known as the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging. Assisted Director of Policy and Government Relations on lobby activities related to non-profit nursing homes and continuing care retirement communities. Closely monitored attempt by the First Lady to reform the nation's health care system which spurred much debate and eventually failed.

Assisted American lobbyists and Japanese public affairs executives in the DC Public Affairs office. Coordinated tours of the Ohio Honda plant by key Capitol Hill staffers.
