Supervise Operations staff to maintain and operate the power plant in a safe, efficient manner within the guidelines of the department, provide shift coverage as needed for Operations staff performing unit operations in an industrial environment. Manage and direct the Operations Production shifts, confer with Management, Engineering and Operations personnel to resolve operational problems and recommend- implement measures for improvement. Evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications or changes in operation to allow for a more efficient and reliable operation of equipment. Attend and conduct weekly safety meetings. Coordinate and plan operator functions for development and training. Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental and safety requirements. Write and upgrade plant operational procedures to improve plant operation and safety. Provide coverage on shifts as needed when necessary. Oversee water chemistry methods, maintain chemicals and adjust water testing techniques as needed. Maintain Operations staff records including performance reviews, disciplinary action, accommodations and shift reports. Ensure plant grounds lawn care and chemical provider contracts are maintained and renewed annually. Place orders for materials, oversee projects to maintain plant and plant grounds in a professional well maintained condition. Any additional duties as assigned.

Oversee the entire operation and personnel assigned responsibilities for the operation of main boilers, turbines, generators and balance of plant equipment during normal start-up, operation and shut-down of generating units. Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems during emergency situations. This position directs and supervises the shift activities of the plant in a manner that maintains and improves reliability and efficiency, assures environmental compliance and monitors employees schedule to ensure adequate staffing for safe reliable operation of the plant. This position will identify corrective actions necessary to maintain unit reliability, performance, availability, heat rate and outage activities within budget. Assure environmental compliance is maintained. Keeps Operations Superintendent informed at all times of any plant concerns, issues and corrective action taken. May be required to fill in other job positions as needed. Maintains plant equipment in a clean operable manner. Train for advancement as well as train other shift members for their advancement. Any additional duties as assigned.

Responsible for operating, controlling and maintaining the boilers, turbine-generators and all associated equipment from the main control room in a safe reliable and efficient manner using the DCS computer based controls. Start-up and shut-down the units outages utilizing various checklists for each situation. Ability to take appropriate corrective action necessary to maintain unit performance, availability, heat rate and outage scheduling. Provide direction to other shift members for normal operation and abnormal plant situations. Perform daily routine equipment checks and perform water testing on a daily basis. Train for advancement as well as train other shift members for their advancement. May be required to fill in other job positions as needed. Any additional duties as assigned.

Responsible for operating, controlling and maintaining the boilers and auxiliary equipment for the safe efficient operation of the turbine-generators. Performs routine hourly rounds on all levels of the plant to verify proper operation of equipment, checking oil and water levels, temperatures and pressures to ensure safe effective operation. Performs water testing and determines type and amounts of chemicals to be added to maintain desired water chemistry. Climbs cooling towers at least once per shift to verify fan lubricate levels and proper operation of tower fans. Provides assistance to other shift members as well as Maintenance and other plant personnel to perform tasks and outage activities on equipment. Maintains designated areas of responsibility in a clean uncluttered condition. Train for advancement as well as provide training for other employees on shift. May be required to fill in other job positions as needed. Any additional duties as assigned.

This position was to provide assistance to the Boiler Fireman and other shift members as needed. This position was eliminated 15 years ago during a reduction in work force. In 1980 the shifts consisted of four man shifts, A Shift foreman, Switchboard Operator, Boiler Fireman and an Auxiliary Equipment Operator, over the years we have been doing more with less, and have reduced the shifts from 4 to three and currently operate with two man shifts a Shift Supervisor and a Switchboard Operator. This puts a very large work load on both positions and requires both positions to perform an assortment of tasks and assignments to get things done including start-up, operate and shut down turbine-generators, water chemistry, housekeeping, training assignments and any other duties as assigned.
