About Jim Boyle

I attended B.L.E.T. in 1989 and soon after started working in the Town of Coats. I also worked for the Town of Bladenboro and Youngsville. I left local government and went to work for the Police Dept. at Dorothea Dix Hospital. I climbed the ranks and spent my final three years as a supervisor and ultimately the Chief of police. Later I transitioned to the State Capitol Police Dept. State Capitol Police is the primary provider of police services to the downtown government complex and State-owned facilities within Wake County. State Capitol officers have full subject matter jurisdiction in the City of Raleigh and in Wake Co. on State-owned maintained or leased property. Most State employees are used to seeing SCP officers where they work in State buildings to provide law enforcement to visitors and employees. In addition to building officers, State Capitol Police has mobile elements that back up the building officers and respond to emergencies at other state facilities. When I’m not working I enjoy my hobby as a general class ham radio operator and live in North Raleigh.

As I depart from my sworn career and beloved State Capitol Police Section, it is on a very high note. I offer my deepest respect, gratitude, and thanks to my fellow members of SCP, almost ten years went by fast for me. I will hold especially close my time as a supervisor at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind. I witnessed acts of personal courage and biblical determination on a daily basis, often sending me home after a shift to my daughter delivering her extra hugs she wouldn't know why. Cops, & their kids....My Squad Five, they keet the saw sharp. I would often "catch" them with "police one" and other training resources pulled up while on duty. It is sometimes hard to live your truth, we are the building police. My squad wanted to be the absolute top shelf building police on the planet. They functioned independently and inherently knew when to engage supervision. As a specialized Law Enforcement Agency, our officers work independently and are burdened with monotonous repetitive days working a static post. I can attest that each member, knows this job will bring you from zero to 110% in a heartbeat. Complacency is the challenge for my friends. This is my farewell and thanks to the men & women who would run, not walk into gunfire to help a stranger or colleague in distress. My prayers and well wishes are with you as you now have the torch, my final advice to all sworn law enforcement is my Swiss Army Knife speech. Please be many different tools for many different people, just like the simple Swiss Army Knife. The "Rambo" knife looks cool, but the Swiss Army Knife is just as sharp & deadly if need be, I could argue it's a stealth bomber with options. After 28 years of wearing stinky soft body armor and about 20 extra pounds of gadgets on my belt, I look forward to the next evolution of my life in service to mankind which has yet to be determined. Blessed are the Peacemakers........ Matt. 5.9 Godspeed my friends, 511 10-42Sgt. J. Boyle ( Ret. )
