Jim Bunting is a founding partner of Tyr LLP. He is a trial lawyer experienced in a diverse range of areas, including class actions, arbitration, advertising and deceptive or unfair trade practice disputes, securities litigation, defamation, franchise disputes, misuse of confidential information claims and sports-related disputes. Jim represents clients on their most challenging issues. He has been lead trial counsel in a number of complex and landmark cases, including representing Google in a Reference Application concerning whether there is a “right to be forgotten” in Canada; representing South African 800 metre Olympic champion Caster Semenya (and before her Dutee Chand) in appeals seeking to strike down regulations that require certain women to lower their naturally occurring testosterone levels as a condition of participation in women’s sport; and representing wind farm developers successfully defending a constitutional challenge alleging that their developments were approved by the Ontario government in violation of section 7 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.Jim is consistently named one of Canada’s leading litigators by legal directories.
