I was fortunate to start working for the first diagnostic ultrasound company in the USA a couple of weeks before I graduated (okayed by the dean of EE, Melvin Capehart) and spent the next 49 years in various positions in the medical imaging business. In 1974, I was promoted from testing echoencephalography systems to be a quality assurance engineer, and I started looking at ringdown and center frequency of the single element transducers that were used back then. A year later I joined a design team developing a compound-contact B-scanner and eventually became the field service engineer for that system. I was trained on the first commercially available real-time phased array ultrasound system by the Dutch company that developed it and supported the clinical trials of it in the USA, which gave me the opportunity to meet and work with leading doctors that were developing the use of diagnostic ultrasound including Barry Goldberg and David Sahn. Those early experiences in the disciplines of manufacturing, QA medical regulations, engineering, product development and field service laid the foundation for the rest of my career. I was honored and blessed to lead and work with teams in:• Field service of US, NM, CT, MM and MR systems, • Technical service and support, • Quality engineering, • Regulatory compliance, • Manufacturing,• Project management of product development and quality improvement programs, • Technical training and documentation,• Electronic repair operations, • Business systems development, implementation and support.I was always interested in technical and personal development training for my employees, customers and myself, and in the last 20 years of my career it became a passion for me. Healthcare organizations can provide better and higher quality service plus save substantial sums of money by intelligent implementation of in-house service programs. I am proud to say I helped develop and deliver many seminars and service training programs to meet those goals.
