About Jim Dehart

Jim is the COO of the Legacy Tourism Group. LTG was formed in 2013 to address client demands in tourism, particularly Indigenous community sustainable tourism projects. Over 88 projects completed or underway located in BC, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Connecticut and Bhutan.Jim remains the President of Upstream Recreation Corp. URC provides services to First Nations and others regarding wilderness tourism & resource based issues. Experiences includes First Nations treaty negotiations (land selection and resource-based issues), tourism development, government tenure management, operational safety procedures, risk evaluation & operations management.Jim was the founder and operator of Destiny River Adventures Ltd. until he sold it to staff to make time for LTG in 2012. Jim retired as a commercial river guide, guide trainer, and certified guide examiner in 2023 after 39 years as a river guide. Prior to working in the private sector, Jim worked for the BC Government for 17 years. He was a Program Officer for the coastal watershed restoration program, the provincial Boating/Rafting Regulations Officer, and a Parks Officer managing all operational components of park operations, mainly in the large wilderness parks in the BC north and northwest. Jim graduated from BCIT in the Fish, Wildlife and Recreation program in 1985 and completed the University of Victoria Restoration of Natural Systems program in 2007. He is the past Executive Director of the BC River Outfitters Association and previous member of the Adventure Tourism Alliance working on policy changes with provincial and federal government agencies. He is a past director, secretary and president of the Wilderness Tourism Association of BC; past co-chair of the Campbellton Neighbourhood Association; past chair of Tourism North Central Island; and past Executive Director of the International Rescue Instructors Authority.
