The Commencement is the first book in the series in which Elizabeth Wydeville tells her story to Dominic Mancini, an Augustinian friar who has returned to England in 1492 to finish report he wrote nine years earlier. Elizabeth's one condition: Dominic must keep his report to Charles VIII of France confidential until her death.
