Jim Kopp is one of the wine industry’s pioneers. Graduating from Cornell University in Hotel Management, Jim began his career working with several different restaurant concepts. He then spent five years with McDowell Valley Vineyards working as National Sales and Marketing DirectorAt heart an innovator, Jim combined his interests, opening Rumpus restaurant and Bliss Bar in San Francisco. Rumpus earned acclaim in Gourmet Magazine, Food and Wine, The Wine Spectator and was named a “Top 100” restaurant in San Francisco by Michael Bauer. Bliss Bar was named one of the City’s top cocktail lounges by In Style Magazine. Jim then formed a consulting business, l ACME Wine Marketing, to assist premium family owned wineries in building their brands with sales, distribution, and marketing effortsHired by Jackson Family Wines in 2007, Jim was responsible for the marketing of a variety of wineries and initiatives before he developed launched and executed the now legendary “A Really Goode Job” campaign for Murphy Goode Winery. This first social media campaign for wine garnered over 300,000,000 media mentions.Jim then joined Truett-Hurst in 2010, trailblazing a previously undeveloped private label route to market, and created partnerships with the largest national retailers in the US including Kroger, Safeway, Target and others. In 2016, he moved to The Thornhill Companies, where he established a national accounts sales program, creating and building 16 brand identities, and, selling the concepts to Total Wine, Kroger, Lidl, Trader Joes, and others.In 2019, Jim launched Primera Properites, a consulting firm focused on assisting family owned, artisanal wineries to gain access in the National Account Retail channel.
