Jim Seils is an entrepreneur, management consultant, engineer, board certified ergonomist & retired board certified safety professional who was President of Ergomatrix, Inc., the ergonomics consulting firm he founded in 1996. He is considered one of the leading practitioners of workplace ergonomics in the U.S. who has been instrumental in identifying musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among workers in both office & industrial settings.
Jim was responsible for safety on the subway system of New York and his team of engineers and human factors & transit specialists established the first computer program to calculate the wear life replacement cycle of each piece of track on the NYC subway system resulting in significant cost savings.

As Corporate Manager of Risk Management Services at The Home Insurance Co. in New York Jim directed its ergonomics program. He established an ergonomics principles & software training program for a nationwide staff of engineers to use in consultation with Home’s clients. He made it possible for every engineer in the U.S. to be able to connect to the mainframe computer system while sitting in a client’s office to analyze any insurance claim submitted on a real time basis.
At Ergomatrix, Jim saved a nationally well known tractor trailer firm one day’s manufacturing time per trailer per week via implementation of his recommendations that focused results on the important ergonomic issues affecting job & tool design and expenses. He has a solid background in developing low-cost & common-sense ergonomic improvements.
