At the time, the catch phrase of the industry was "Transportation Land Use Link". This meant that the planning industry was realizing that transportation planning and land use planning, in order to be successful, had to be conducted jointly. I was hired by Metro to provide this linkage to their ground breaking growth management plan known as Region 2040. It was fascinating work, but my job suffered from severe lack of direction. No one was really sure what I (the "transportation land use link") was supposed to do.So, after a little over a year, I came back to Seattle to take a break, write, make music and then get back into transportation technology planning and implementation.

Life Before MetroVarious Jan 1988 - Aug 1993Before Metro, I worked on the planning of Seattle's light rail system for three years; was a CADD expert for several architecture and engineering firms; worked at the Capital Area Transportation Authority in Lansing, Michigan, for two years; studied transit station locations and housing density in Tokyo, and wrote lots of angry youthful missives.I was also the co-chair of the Seattle chapter of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt for eight years, during which time I investigated in-depth the level of burn out one can achieve when working on something one truly loves.
