In addition to my top level skills as a photojournalist and wire service news photographer, honed over a more than 35 year career that has taken me to all 50 states and more than 30 foreign countries, I have extensive experience with covering and interacting with the White House and offices on Capitol Hill. As a more than 17 year elected member of the U.S. Senate Standing Committee of Press Photographers and more than 10 years as the Vice President of the White House News Photographers Association, my knowledge of Washington and coverage of political, campaign, White House and Capitol Hill news is vast. In these roles and on behalf of my former employer I have also frequently served in leadership roles as a liaison between different types of media (broadcast, print, wire service, etc ...) and government and political entities planning major events. This has included White House and Capitol Hill events, presidential travel, international summits and many major sports events from multiple Olympics and World Cups to all the major U.S. pro sports championships. I have taken the lead in negotiating and helping mutually coordinate press access and the logistics of press coverage for many of those events and numerous others. I have also been a specialist in live photo editing from and at major news events, getting pictures out to the world frequently within minutes or even seconds after they were taken at national political conventions, election night rallies and presidential inaugurations.

In my role managing all Reuters Photos coverage of Washington I ran a team of 5-10 staff photographers and editors as well as hired and trained 20-30 freelancers. I helped dramatically diversify that team over my tenure, hiring the two newest staff in the country, both women. I increased Reuters news images produced by women in Washington from an insignificant number to over 50% annually. I also participated in hiring virtually all new U.S. staff photographers in the past 20 years. In terms of news coverage while in this role, I live edited in person or photographed events from the Kremlin to Beijing, from London to Paris, the Pope’s private office in the Vatican to Tokyo, Riyadh + dozens more countries. I have covered wars, natural disasters, Olympics, World Cups, NBA championships, World Series, Grand Prix auto racing and numerous other global sports championships. My live editing has included several recent Super Bowls as well as the Oscars on site in LA for 16 of the last 18 years. As the top Reuters photo editor in DC I have been responsible for running virtually all major political, campaign and presidential coverage in the US, including 5 presidential elections (of the 11 campaign cycles I have now covered). I negotiated photo access to dozens of debates on site and ran the coverage of 10 RNC and DNC conventions of the 16 I have covered. I regularly oversaw news budgets of more than a million dollars annually. I was responsible for regularly negotiating access with the White House, State, Justice and Supreme Court as well as Capitol Hill. I played a lead role in running International Summit teams in Canada, Russia, Trinidad, Hawaii and multiple domestic venues.I served 17 years as an elected member of the U. S. Senate Standing Committee of Press Photographers (which controls access and credentialing for both Houses of Congress .) I also served more than ten years as the elected Vice President of the White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA).
