I am an IPTPA Certified Pickleball Coach and a co-founder of Deep River Pickleball / Canadian Duo Pickleball Coaching. My wife Ky is an assistant instructor and business manager. Deep River Pickleball / Canadian Duo Pickleball Coaching provides pickleball coaching and lessons. We are based in Deep River, Ontario. We use our SEO and social media to connect players, instructors and pickleball communities across the country. Many new players are not affiliated with Clubs or organizations in their communities. We connect them with our network of Clubs and instructors. For Clubs and Communities our goal is to help them understand the pickleball opportunity and help them stay ahead of the inevitable, sometime crushing demand for facilities and activities.

For seven years, I was the CEO of a publicly listed technology company. At the same time I was a Director on several Boards. My conclusion then was that most Boards struggle to understand what their role is and how to implement strong corporate governance. It's why Boardroom Metrics was founded. Today, almost twenty years and many clients later, I feel exactly the same. Regardless of organization type - public, private, not-for-profit - Boards are mostly unaware of their priorities, confused about their relationship with their CEO and naive about strategy. Most succeed at governance thanks to good luck, not great knowledge or strong leadership. When their luck runs out, many Boards and organizations fail. The number of failures is a surprise to most Directors. Unfortunately, these failures tend to be interpreted and reported as management problems. Boards are seldom held accountable for their own poor performance. I remain committed to helping Boards achieve good governance. My approach has remained the same for many years - to focus Boards on the few priorities that matter and stop them wasting valuable Director time on crap that doesn't. For Boards that get it, the governance results are great. They spend less time and do a much better job ensuring the sustainability and success of their organizations. For those that don't get it, not much changes. Their organizations remain vulnerable and they continue wasting time on the wrong priorities. Overall, strong governance remains a great concept that is poorly executed. My work won't change that (there are too many bad Boards) but where I can help, I do.
