Also responsible for the deployment and commissioning of additional SDH nodes required to support the GSM-R project.•Fibre Leasing: I am currently acting as the technical lead on the Irish Rail Fibre Release project. My duties require me to manage and co-ordinate teams of contract testers ensuring that the Irish Rail dark fibres are compliant to the third party customer’s specification including records of each fibre trace, insertion loss measurement, Chromatic Dispersion (CD) and Polarisation Mode Dispersion (PMD) measurements.•Site Surveys: Meeting with third party clients on site to agree the location of interface cabinets to allow the customer to connect into Irish Rail’s dark fibre network in the most efficient and cost effective manner.•Network Operations Centre (NOC): Working closely with the NOC staff to compile Permits to Work for cable outages, ensuring that network disruption is kept to a minimum. -

Completing a ‘Birth Certificate’ for each transmission node ensuring that all settings are as per the design specification. •Installation: Installing transmission equipment in Telecoms Equipment Rooms (TERs). Using an SDH tester to confirm operational compliance of fibre optic patch chords. Installing patch chords into a cable management system ensuring the acceptable bend radius of the patch chords is not exceeded. Dressing patch chords into the ODF and connecting the transmission node onto the live network.•Maintenance: Actively involved in transmission network maintenance through the use of management platforms including Service On-Element Manager (SO-EM), Service On-Network Manager (SO-NM), Network Management System 10 (NMS10) and Integrated Management Console (IMC). •Fault resolution: I assisted field staff in the resolution of faults on fibre optic and copper cables, demonstrating the correct procedures to follow to locate and resolve faults in a logical and timely manner.•Analysis: Analysing OTDR traces using fibre analysis software, preparing test reports and storing the information to be used for future maintenance purposes.•Training: I developed procedures for commissioning telecoms cable infrastructure. I demonstrated these procedures to staff members and explained the relevant technical principles involved. I coached the teams while they carried out the test procedures providing additional instruction and technical support when necessary. -
