I was given the honor of being apart of the Summer Undergraduate Research Institute for the Study of Kidney Disease (SURISKD) program at UTSouthwestern! Here I investigated the importance of a mitochondrial transaminase, GOT2, and its role in kidney development.Using GOT2 knockout mice via CRISPR-Cas9, Cre-mediated recombination, I performed knockout confirmations and a variety of immunofluorescence stains to visualize structural differences!

Under the Environmental Research Apprenticeship Program, I provided technical support in soil and groundwater characterization.

Under the funding provided by the University of Oklahoma, I was able to conduct research in East Central University’s undergraduate lab! My project focused on CRISPR-Cas13a systems and how they play an important role in RNA-guided nucleic acid detection by identifying pathogenic organisms.
