Madison Ave. Collective — aka the MAC — is a branding design and website user experience firm I founded in 2008. What began as a loose-knit group of independent designers and web developers has since grown into a fully-functional creative agency. Today we develop large-scale branding systems, custom websites, and marketing campaigns that are always fueled by research and strategic thinking. My role with the MAC has become more focused as the company has grown and evolved over the years. Portland, Oregon Area

Euro RSCG is the fifth largest ad agency in the world, and somehow they found my number. I worked with folks from their Portland, Salt Lake City, and Boston offices for a range of clients including Visa, Lexmark and The Standard Insurance. My contributions to these projects were primarily in the areas of wireframing and interface design for several websites and email marketing campaigns.

I led a group of 38 junior- and senior-level graphic design students for a 10-week study in electronic pre-press/print production. I developed the curriculum and taught the course in Spring term, 2008.

This was my first job right out of college, and during my initial interview I remember being asked if I could commit to one year. I said "sure," and stayed for eight. I learned a ton along the way. Being a smaller design firm I had the opportunity to wear lots of hats, interact with lots of clients, and occasionally I was paid to travel to far away places. Case in point: I once spent three days in Taiwan doing press checks for a series of packaging I helped design for H-P. It was there I learned the proper, respectful way to exchange business cards (receive with two hands, read every word on both sides), and also the value of a short sleeve T-shirt in Asia, in August. I packed long sleeves.

Here I led a group of about 20 junior- and senior-level graphic design students in a 10-week, introductory course on web design. I developed the curriculum and taught the course twice. (Spring terms, 2004 and 2005.)
