Joining the University of Melbourne in 2020, I am working in partnership with the lead executive, chancellery and academic faculties to transform Legal & Risk into a forward-thinking, value-add business partner. Oman

Two years after the launch of Omani telecommunications company Ooredoo Oman, I was engaged to build and lead the inaugural legal and regulatory team. A member of the executive team and direct report to the CEO, I contributed to regulatory aspects of strategic planning and provided legal advice to the organisation, including regulatory requirements related to product, pricing and promotional activities. As Chief Legal & Regulatory Officer, I held direct P&L accountability in addition to company secretarial responsibilities, and from 2014-17, managed a multimillion-dollar revenue line for the Wholesale business.• Recruited, developed and led a team of seven high performing professionals to create the Legal & Regulatory team, creating a value-led culture that supported company-high engagement scores year on year;• Facilitated continuous growth and diversification, with key activities including response to market dominance, bids to secure fixed licence and international gateway and multiple spectrum acquisitions;• Drove a 40% reduction in product lifecycle via adoption of an agile working model and framework;• Provided thought leadership in the tech/telco space, speaking regularly at international conferences.

A business partnering role with Australia’s second largest wireless carrier, I provided a range of quality legal services. Focused on enabling the commercial goals of the challenger brand, I led two direct reports in drafting and negotiating large government contracts, supplier and partner contracts, software licences and content arrangements. Key outcomes included the creation of ERM and OHS functions post-takeover integration of Alphawest and new standard terms and conditions for all Optus Business customers.

Appointed to Minter Ellison’s Corporate Group, I was responsible for M&A, capital raising and general commercial work, supporting range of transactions for large corporates. Notably, I was engaged as Principal Legal Advisor to a major online travel business, guided the development of franchises for distribution and advised on agreements for delivery and storage of highly sought after technology equipment.

Seconded from Linklaters (role below), I provided corporate and commercial legal advice to a start-up, pan-European tech/telco joint venture between Vodafone and Vivendi Universal. During this period, I helped to establish seven joint venture companies with Vodafone subsidiaries across multiple European countries, drafting and negotiating shareholder and asset purchase agreements. I also served as Company Secretary for all JVs.
