Leads all of NU’s regulatory affairs and community relations activities in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Oversees the company’s day-to-day interactions with state utility regulators and local officials, as well as developing and implementing community relations and economic development strategies that foster NU’s role as an active, visible and reliable corporate presence in every part of its service territory. Also, plays a leadership role in advancing NU's Corporate Social Responsibility efforts throughout New England.

Jim Hunt served on Mayor Thomas Menino's Cabinet as Chief of Environmental and Energy Services for the City of Boston. Hunt was s the Mayor's lead advisor on environmental and energy policy and oversaw several city agencies including the Inspectional Services Department, the Environment Department, Parks Planning, and Boston's Recycling Program. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) and as a Trustee on the Boston Groundwater Trust.

Prior to joining the City of Boston, Jim Hunt served as Assistant Secretary for the Commonwealth's Executive Office of Environmental Affairs (EOEA) and was responsible for administering the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA). As administrator of the Commonwealth's MEPA program, he was in charge of environmental impact reviews of some of the most significant projects in the state, including downtown waterfront development, MBTA transit projects, and energy projects such as Cape Wind. Hunt served on the Commonwealth's Ocean Management Task Force and on the Environmental Oversight Committee for the Central Artery/Tunnel Project. Jim Hunt also served as the Assistant Secretary of Government Relations and Public Affairs at the EOEA. He worked on landmark environmental legislation in Massachusetts, inclusing the brownfields revitalization act, the community preservation act, and the environmental bond bill.
