I primarily reported and wrote on Akron-area businesses, economic development and related topics. I also have covered county government. Also worked as needed on an early morning shift that primarily involves posting breaking news to the beaconjournal.com web site. Technical skills include shooting and editing iPhone video, Excel spreadsheets, using social media, blogging, and aggregating stories for posting online. I do deep dives into SEC documents, court filings, and other public information. My versatility includes being able to handle breaking news off my beat and assisting colleagues with their stories.

Started as a reporter at the CDT in 1992. Beats included covering Penn State University, general assignment, and business. Promoted to assistant city editor, then city editor. Supervised news reporting staff and assistant city editor; helped a young reporting staff grow and develop. Set story priorities. Took part in hiring decisions. Left the paper to take a job as business writer at the Akron Beacon Journal.

Worked as a freelance reporter and intern at the Providence Journal after grad school. Did general assignment news primarily for the paper's East Bay bureau.

Covered Newport City Hall, general news/breaking news, and weekend shifts as city/assigning editor.

Reported and wrote stories, took photographs, wrote editorials and did design/layout initially at the Warren Times-Gazette and then the Sakonnet Times. Left the Sakonnet Times to take a job at the Newport Daily News.
