And like any good middle child, I’m obsessed with fairness, and pretty good at negotiating through conflict to get there. That’s why in my career, I lead people to fight to bring more resources and build better systems to make the world more just, applying my far-reaching experience and skills to solve big problems.I’m a journalist-turned-teacher-turned-grant maker, and that breadth of experience and training has served me well in learning fast, communicating well, adapting easily, and achieving big things collaboratively.Among my proudest professional achievements:-Leading my middle school math students to grow nearly two academic years in just one school year as a Teach For America alumnus-Publishing front-page stories in a Pulitzer-winning newspaper-Distributing over a half-million books to students thanks in part to six-figure gifts I helped broker from professional athletes and universities-Successfully bargaining a 4-year, $20 million labor contract with above-market wages and more equitable hiring and compensation practices as the elected president of my company’s worker union-Managing 50 paid staff as editor-in-chief of my college newspaper and earning a national best-in-class award from the Society of Professional JournalistsA few of the skills in my toolbelt include:-Stellar speaking, writing, and listening skills-Financial and Data Analytics-Certified in Advanced Tax Law by the IRS VITA program for seven years running to prepare tax returns as a volunteer for low-income filers-Deep knowledge of healthcare and education policy and pedagogy-Agile and Scrum project management-Program evaluation and impact product developmentTo boot, I’m a dual US and Irish citizen with full authorization to live, work, and travel anywhere in the US, EU, or UK visa free.
