Principal Engineer - Power Tool ElectronicsMilwaukee Tool Jun 2013 - Mar 2015Brookfield, Wi, Us -
Senior Principal EngineerOrbital Sciences Corporation Jun 2012 - Mar 2013Dulles, Va, UsPerformed Worst Case and Stress Analyses on space grade analog/digital circuits used for power management, telemetry, and control for a satellite system. Analysis looked at the effects of mission life (15yrs), temperature, and radiation on electronic component performance. Developed PSPICE circuit models in ORCAD and mathematical circuit models in Mathcad to validate circuit designs. -
Senior Electrical EngineerInscope International Aug 2011 - Mar 2012Reston, Va, UsA member of a cross-functional new product development team. Responsibilities included hardware design, firmware design, test equipment design, and new business development and innovation.Created firmware for an embedded microcontroller based system for energy measurement (Watt-Hours) and control written in C for a 16-bit PIC24F microcontroller (DSC). Firmware routines and algorithms controlled external 24-bit Analog/Digital converter devices over 2 MHz SPI communications channels for energy readings. A boot time calibration routine calculated gains and offsets of the measurement system via an RS-232 serial interface to a PC and stored results in external serial I2C EEPROM. A RS-485 port communicated with a host controller using error correction codes (check sum) for reliability.Contributed to the authorship of new business proposals by writing detailed technical specifications for Lithium Ion Battery Management Systems (BMS) and electronics.Held Top Secret Security Clearance. -
Application EngineerTexas Instruments Oct 2007 - Aug 2011Dallas, Tx, UsWorld-wide technical support to client engineers in the successful use of Li-Ion Battery Management System ICs including global product training presentations, root-cause analysis of applications, and authorship of application notes and specifications.Project manager for an award winning IC. Team consisted of highly experienced, multi-discipline engineering design group (Hardware, Firmware, Software). Demonstrated ability to manage project priorities, build consensus, drive decisions, follow-up, and deliver results. Designed PCB hardware and wrote collateral for three (3) customer evaluation kits for Li-Ion BMS:(1) Printed circuit board assembly that monitored voltage, current, temperature, and impedance of batteries up to 72VDC. Featured gas gauging, active cell balancing, and battery current control MOSFETs for 1kW loads. (2) An analog front end BMS circuit that monitored cell voltage, current, and temperature for power tool applications.(3) A lead acid BMS that monitored 12VDC or 24VDC battery voltage, current, and temperature to calculate run time to empty and end of life. A specialized IrDA serial interface was developed to allow remote, wireless extraction of battery data. -
Lead Design EngineerTexas Instruments Apr 2006 - Oct 2007Dallas, Tx, UsStart up company purchased by Texas Instruments during my employment.Created reference designs for Battery Management System PCBAs for laptop and tablet markets for global customers. Managed circuit board assembly through subcontractors.Supervised and directed day to day activity of laboratory technicians including building prototype assemblies and developing laboratory test equipment and facilities.
