About Jimmy-John Hoste

Space is the final frontier and has the potential to influence life on Earth through new technologies. We need a way to get there and back efficiently and effectively. A PhD focused on scramjet combustion coupled with my work at the German Aerospace Centre builds on a deep knowledge of the drivers and impacts of high speed flow phenomena including shock waves, turbulence and combustion. Further nurturing turbulent combustion knowledge at CERFACS while gaining skills in scientific software development as part of the COOP team and exploring the world of data science. Eager to connect and share ideas with colleagues in the aerospace industry.

    As a part of my PhD I organised a research visit to the Center for Hypersonics (CfH), leading group in scramjet research with world class experimental facilities. My work focused on the numerical modeling of scramjet flows. I contributed to the development of the in-house CFD code Eilmer (http://cfcfd.mechmining.uq.edu.au/eilmer/) by implementing a combustion model suitable for the preliminary design of scramjets. The visit was made possible through the support of the J.M. Lessells scholarship from the Royal Society of Edinburgh as well as through the Mac Robertson scholarship from the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde.
