I joined SoFi in it's "teenage years" -- a time of unique and exciting growth and change, as it grew from a successful, sometimes chaotic, startup to a stable, mature, financial and technological organization. At SoFi I led a team responsible for improving the speed, efficiency, and cost of originating loans using automation, machine learning, and workflow optimization. We were instrumental in improving the unit economics, scale, and stability of SoFi's loan origination process.I also helped shape the growth and maturation of the engineering organization, and was part of bringing a number of technical and organization improvements to SoFi, including CI/CD, more modern web stacks and tooling, clear career trajectory and coaching, and vertically aligned, self sufficient teams.A few projects I'm particularly proud of at SoFi include* No Touch Loans -- pioneered the capability to originate loans in under a minute with no compromise in credit quality or operational risk.* Identity and income verification automation -- leveraged 3rd party integrations, machine learning, and OCR to automatically verify income and applicant identity.* Common operator infrastructure -- introduced pattern for incremental and componentized migration of legacy, monolithic Play web application to modern React/Spring stack.

Buying a home should be a moment of excitement and achievement, but is often clouded by the anxiety, confusion, and disempowerment of the mortgage process. Clara intended to change that by bringing together technology, operational excellence, and understanding and empathy for the borrower.I joined Clara as one of the first engineers, and helped build the first product, tech stack, engineering team, and culture. As the team grew, I led the development of our internal-facing operational applications, a suite of tools intended to automate, coordinate, and augment our mortgage origination team.Clara was acquired by SoFi in February 2018.

Broad experience and impact across all aspects of imagining and creating technology - software development, product management and organizational design.* Built Bridgewater's algorithmic trading systems - software that automatically and electronically executed trillions of dollars worth of trades a year - taking the trading desk from a manual, human driven, error prone and unscalable process to a stable, reliable and performant operation.* Created unique levels of transparency and introspection into the performance and behavior of the algorithms - treating them not as black boxes but as codified artifacts of fundamental understanding and knowledge about market micro-structures.* Worked with and helped connect diverse customer and technology team with often drastically different backgrounds and perspectives, helping traders and geeks see eye to eye and work together to create great technology.* Navigated the thorny world of financial technology, composing solutions and requirements from software vendors, data providers, banks, regulators and others into a cohesive system.* Pioneered and drove the adoption of new technologies at Bridgewater to meet the unique challenges of the algorithmic trading problem - C++, Linux, high performance tick data capture, continuous integration.
