I am an adjunct instructor with Moberly Area Community College at their Hannibal campus as well as for their online campus. I have a MA and BA in History I am a twenty year veteran of the US Army and Missouri National Guard where I held three MOS's; food service technician, military policeman, and signals interceptor (Morse). My goals are to continue my career as a history instructor in higher education as well as working on other aspects of higher education, particularly educational research and teacher development. I enjoy teaching geography and history courses both online and on campus. As a history instructor at a community college I feel that most college students take one or two American History courses and that we as instructors need to make those courses stand out. Far too often the survey courses are ignored in favor of upper level history courses, but the truth is the survey course is often the only history course taken by most college students. This model is being created with making those survey courses stand out as substantial learning opportunities. I "flipped" the American History survey course model and have had excellent results. Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
