The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) helps people make informed health care decisions, and improves health care delivery and outcomes, by producing and promoting high integrity, evidence-based information that comes from research guided by patients, caregivers and the broader health care community.

Since the beginning of 2007 I have functioned as a board member on a variety of committees within the health system, been a guest speaker in the university’s schools of medicine, nursing and social work, and functioned as a board member on an Institutional Review Board as a Community Member. For the health system’s C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital I sat on a Continuum of Care Committee, and on the institution’s Pediatric Ethic’s Committee. I also sat on the Executive Committee as the sole community member for the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital. On each of these committees I strove to represent the voice and perspectives of patients and their families. I will never give back as much as I and my family have been given by the U of M Health System, so I work to help make it the best institution of it’s kind, and am continually proud to be able to represent it and the families it serves.

The Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP) was established in fiscal year 2009 (FY09) when the United States Congress appropriated specific funds (annually about $20 million) to the Department of Defense budget for the study of lung cancer. The mission of the LCRP is to support and integrate research from multiple disciplines for risk assessment, prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment for the control and cure of lung cancer. As a lung cancer survivor and advocate I serve as a consumer reviewer to evaluate research applications submitted to the Lung Cancer Research Program. In this role I am a full voting member, along with scientists to help determine how the money appropriated by Congress will be spent on future lung cancer research.

Go2 for Lung Cancer was created when Lung Cancer Alliance and the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation merged, and is a leading organization dedicated to saving lives and advancing research by empowering those living with and at risk for lung cancer.My role at Go2 has evolved over the years, and has includedmy current roles as a Co-Investigator on a PCORI awarded study of stigma and nihilism in the lung cancer community, and as an Ambassador for the organization, speaking at events, and supporting initiatives.

I have held multiple roles with NCI, including: - Reviewer, Cancer Center Study Section A - Grant Reviewer - Board Member, Adult, Late Phase CIRB - Alternate Board Member, Adult, Early Phase CIRB - Navigate Program, Member, Executive Committee and Steering Committee

As a part of the newly expanded Trinity Health Systems, Saint Joe's is a prominent heath services provider in southeast Michigan, and is the site of significant cancer research. At Saint Joe's I served as a volunteer Patient Experience Advisor. In that capacity I was Committee Chair on the Patient Experience Advisory Committee, and served on the system's cancer advisory committee, on a pain management committee, and, through Oct 2016, I acted as a voting, non-scientist board member on their NCI-NCORP Central IRB.

I was a grant reviewer for Free to Breath (formerly known as The National Lung Cancer Partnership). It was the only lung cancer advocacy organization founded by doctors and researchers working together with survivors and advocates to increase lung cancer awareness and research funding, and it typically funded early investigators and proof of concept type studies. In 2019 it merged with Lung Cancer Research Foundation.
